Veterans carrying veterans home

Join The Mission.

Honor Mission Foundation is building a nationwide network of veterans committed to ensuring that the cremated remains of our nation's veterans and active-duty service members are transported with the honor and dignity they deserve.

Our mission depends on veteran organizations and their members across the country stepping forward to carry our brothers and sisters on their final journey.

Who can participate in a dignified transport

To participate in an Honor Mission Foundation dignified transport, you must be a member of a recognized veteran organization.

Examples may include:

  • Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association® (CVMA®)
  • American Legion
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
  • Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
  • AMVETS
  • Marine Corps League
  • Military Order of the Purple Heart
  • Other established and recognized veteran service or veteran motorcycle organizations approved by Honor Mission Foundation

Participation in a dignified transport is coordinated through Honor Mission Foundation and participating veteran organizations.

How the mission works

A relay, run by veterans.

When Honor Mission Foundation receives a request for a dignified transport, we coordinate with participating veteran organizations along the transportation route.

01 · Along the route

Organizations are matched to the journey

Depending on the distance, a mission may involve multiple organizations, chapters, posts, detachments, or members working together to complete different legs of the journey.

02 · At each handoff

Responsibility transfers with care

At designated transfer points, responsibility for the veteran's cremated remains is respectfully transferred to the next approved mission participant until the veteran reaches their family or final resting place.

03 · The goal

A veteran-led journey

Replace a commercial shipment with a dignified, veteran-led journey whenever possible.

Those participating in an Honor Mission represent not only their own veteran organization, but also Honor Mission Foundation and the veteran entrusted to our care.

What we ask of mission participants

  • Treat the veteran's cremated remains with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Follow Honor Mission Foundation transport and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Maintain communication with the designated mission coordinator.
  • Protect all documentation and personal information associated with the veteran and family.
  • Complete required transfer documentation at each handoff.
  • Conduct themselves professionally throughout the mission.
  • Never leave entrusted cremated remains unsecured or unattended.
  • Follow all applicable laws and Honor Mission Foundation safety requirements.

Additional qualification, verification, training, transportation, and mission-specific requirements may apply before participation is approved.

A message from our founder

Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Honor Mission Foundation.

Honor Mission Foundation was founded on a simple belief: no veteran's final journey should ever be made alone.

When a veteran passes away and is cremated, families are often left with few options other than shipping their loved one's remains through commercial delivery services. While these services fulfill a logistical need, we believe America's veterans deserve something more.

Honor Mission Foundation exists to coordinate the dignified transport of the cremated remains of verified United States military veterans and active-duty service members through a nationwide network of qualified veteran organizations. Every mission is carried out with professionalism, respect, and the honor earned through military service.

Your generosity allows us to provide these services at no cost to families during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Together, we can ensure that every veteran's final journey reflects the service and sacrifice they gave to our nation.

With gratitude,Jay ThompsonFounder and President, Honor Mission Foundation
